Dimension 1 : Physical
The efficient functioning of the body and its systems and includes the physical capacity to perform tasks and physical fitness
Dimension 2: Social
Being able to interact with others and participate in the community and in both independent and cooperative way.
Dimension 3: Mental
State of well being in which the individual realises his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to make a contribution to his or her community

Optimal Health
Definition: The best level of health an individual can realistically attain.
Everyone is born with different genetics and in different environments. As a result of these and other factors, every persons levels of optimal health it different.
Health Status
An individuals' or a populations' overall health, taking into account various aspects such as life expectancy , amount of disability and levels of disease risk factors.

Burden of disease, life expectancy, health adjusted life expectancy, disability adjusted life years(DALYs), years of life lost(YLL), years lost due to disability(YLD), under 5 mortality, mortality, morbidity, incidence and prevalence.
1.Burden of Disease
A measure of the impact of diseases and injuries, specifically is measures the gap between current health status and an ideal situation where everyone lives to an old age free of disease and disability. Burden of disease is measured in a unit called DALY(disability adjusted life expectancy).
2. Life Expectancy - quantity
An indication of how long a person can expect to live, it is the number of years of life remaining to a person at a particular age if the death rates do not change.
3. Health Adjusted Life Expectancy(HALE's) - quality
A measure of burden of disease based on life expectancy at birth, but including an adjustment for time spent in poor health. It is the number of years in full health that a person can expect to live, based on current rates of ill health and mortality.
4. Disability Adjusted Life Years(DALYs)
A measure of burden of disease, one DALY equals one year of healthy life loss due to premature death and time lived with illness, disease or injury.
5. Years of Life Lost(YLL)
A measure of how many years of expected life are lost due to premature death. (life expectancy - death)
6. Years of Life Lost due to Disability(YLD)
A measure of how many healthy years of life are lost due to illness, injury or disability.
7. Under 5 mortality
The rate of deaths occurring in children under 5 years of age per 1000 live births.
8. Mortality
(Mortality rate is a separate term)
Refers to death, often at a population level.
9. Morbidity
Refers to ill-health in an individual and the levels of ill-health in a population or group.
10. Incidence
The number of new cases of a conditioning during a given period of time.
11. Prevelance
The number of proportion of cases in a particular disease or condition present in a population at a given time.(AIHW 2008).
Mortality Rate(not KK)
Number of deaths(usually expressed per 1000 000 people in a 12 month period) from a specific cause or all causes.
Infant Mortality Rate
Deaths occurring between birth and the first birthday, often expressed per 1000 live births.
Maternal Mortality Rate
Rate of deaths of women who are either pregnant or in the first 42 days after giving birth or having a termination. Expressed per 100 000 live births.
YLD Years Lost due to Disability
a measure of how many healthy years of life are lost due to illness, injury or disability
YLL Years of life lost
a measure of how many years of expected life are lost due to premature death (off life expectancy)
