Ein Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) ist ein Netzwerk, das die Benutzer von Computer-Ressourcen in einem geografischen Bereich oder einer Region miteinander verbindet. Dabei ist das versorgte Gebiet größer als bei einem großen Local Area Network (LAN), aber kleiner als bei einem Wide Area Network (WAN).

Für was steht das Wort Internet?

Das Internet (von englisch interconnected networks ‚zusammengeschaltete Netzwerke', kürzer englisch internetwork oder kurz net ‚Netz'), umgangssprachlich auch Netz, ist ein weltweiter Verbund von Rechnernetzwerken, den autonomen Systemen.

Was gehört alles zu Internet?

Zu den Internetdiensten gehört das World Wide Web, Telnet, Usenet, E-Mail, das Dateiübertragungsverfahren File Transfer Protocol (FTP) sowie auch die Telefonie, Radio und das Fernsehen. Nach dem Grundprinzip kann sich jeder Rechner mit jedem anderen Rechner auf der ganzen Welt verbinden.

Wie hieß das erste Internet?

Damit ging das ARPAnet, der Vorläufer des Internets, wie wir es heute kennen, an den Start. Zunächst waren es vor allem ForscherInnen an den Universitäten, die über das neue Netz auf einfache Art Forschungsergebnisse austauschen konnten.
