Compensation costs increased 1.2 percent for civilian workers, seasonally adjusted, from June 2022 to September 2022. Over the year, total compensation rose 5.0 percent, wages and salaries rose 5.1 percent, and benefit costs rose 4.9 percent.

Private industry compensation costs average $38.91 per hour worked in June 2022

Employer costs for private industry workers averaged $27.44 per hour worked for wages and salaries and $11.47 for benefits in June 2022. Insurance costs were $2.96 per hour, accounting for 7.6 percent of total compensation costs.
