Show Explain the role of the community health nurse in partnership with community stakeholders for population health promotion. Explain why it is important to appraise community resources (nonprofit, spiritual/religious, etc.) as part of a community assessment and why these resources are important in population health promotion. A community health nurse is a nurse who is trained to promote, preserve and protect the health of the public, especially, in geographic locations where healthcare services are not easily assessible (North-Eastern State University, 2017). Community nurses work hand in hand with institutions and organizations that function to promote the health of the public (Herzing University, 2020). Some of the institutions and organizations where community health nurses function in collaboration with stakeholders of health promotion are the American Red Cross, Women, Infant and Children (WIC), and Nurse Family Partnership, to name a few (Herzing University, 2020). The community health nurse provides treatment to patients and offers them health education to help them begin and maintain healthy lifestyles, which will in turn, reduce sickness and hospitalization (North-Eastern University, 2017). The community healthcare nurse also works in the hospitals, schools, community health centers, clinics and government health agencies (North-Eastern University, 2017). The interest of community health nurses is to the help the public prevent health burdens like teen pregnancy, obesity, poor nutrition, smoking, sexually transmitted diseases and infections and substance abuse (North-Eastern University, 2017). They also evaluate the delivery of patient care services and wellness projects in each community (North-Eastern University, 2017). They institute health and wellness programs and conduct researches to improve healthcare (North-Eastern University, 2017). Emergency preparedness is another important role of community health nurses (Herzing University, 2020). In 2002, the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Response Act expanded the roles of community health nurses to act as first responders in community health crises (Herzing University, 2020). Evaluating community health resources is very paramount to ensuring that the public receives appropriate health services (Center for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2018). This is to ensure that the goals and objectives of each community resource is completely met (CDC, 2018). According to CDC (2018), areas that need improvement can be identified during evaluation. Some of these community resources are Indian Health whose function is to promote the health of American Indians/Alaska Native people and National Health Service Corps whose function is also to recruit healthcare professionals in remote areas where they are needed more, to name just a few ( Health Resources & Services Administration, 2017).
